Oasis didn’t manage the feelings

Oasis had everything. Everything a band could ever want. They achieved world-spanning success, iconic hit songs, fame, fortune, the whole list. Unfortunately, they also had the bad with the good; anxiety, jealousy, anger, betrayal, and ultimately, self-destruction. What happened? None of the success amounted to expectation because all along the journey, no matter the achievements, it all felt... terrible.

I just watched the lengthy, comprehensive documentary ‘Supersonic’ about the band Oasis, a very honest and human story. Mega-success didn’t satisfy them because they didn’t manage the feelings.

Certainly, it was entertaining, the bickering between the Gallagher brothers is the stuff edgy screenplays are made of, but mostly it was just kind of sad.

None of the success amounted to expectation because all along the journey, no matter the achievements, it all felt… terrible. It felt terrible to the various band members who called it quits (some after only weeks). It felt terrible to both brothers, and it felt terrible to everyone involved supporting the band.

Facts don’t matter if you don’t manage the feelings. If you don’t manage the feelings you don’t get to clarity and alignment. Feelings get in the way of people seeing the “same” thing. You get an expensive result that isn’t as valuable as you thought it would be that leaves you tattered.

Both brothers have publicly offered terms and expressed interest in reuniting the band… and both brothers have then said the other is publicly lying about it. For us fans’ sake, and for their sake, I hope they can reconcile.

Rock On!
